From Sugar to Silence: A Journey of Diet, Horse Stance and Inner Balance
Today, I would like to share a very recent experience with my health. As you know, I am currently on the path to healing all aspects of my self, the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects.
I am paying attention to what I eat for a long time. In principle and not literally, we are what we eat. That much has been clear to me for a long time. My physical body was addicted to sugar, which caused it to become sick with Diabetes 2. Nutrition is an important part of my healing. I am eating as less carbohydrates as possible. My body is sensitive to sugar and is resisting insulin. Since all carbohydrates are eventually broken down and converted into sugar, I decided a long time ago that I will stop eating any food that contains carbohydrates. Some people might think that this is too extreme and that I shouldn't do that. Unfortunately, eating carbs is not an option for me, as I found out, that even small amounts of carbs, even as low as 30 grams or an ounce for those of you who don’t use the metric system, will cause fatigue for me through glucose spikes. I have been burned too many times metaphorically to allow my self to eat more than 10 grams of carbs per day.
Recently, I continued the practice of horse stance again, which I suspended temporarily, due to the pain from osteoarthritis I felt. Now that I have reduced the inflammatory effect of carbohydrates on my body to a minimum, I felt curious and tried horse stance again. The effect was simply miraculous.
First, let me share the effect of horse stance on my mental and emotional state. It is a calming influence on both. My mind stops chatting and my emotions calm down to the point, where I feel the silent deliciousness of being. I don't think and feel only unconditional love, which is reinforcing my empty mind. In this state of being I only exist. My mind is clear as glass and no thoughts cloud my consciousness. The effect on my emotional state is dramatic. Having no thoughts means having no concerns. Having no concerns means having no bad feelings. Having no bad feelings lead to positive feelings, which in turn lead to the deliciousness of being. Ask yourselves, when do you feel more? Is it when your mind is constantly chatting or when your mind just stops thinking? In my experience, it is when the mind is still. You can try experiencing that for yourselves. The main obstacle for the mind to grasp this, is due to a misconception of thinking and feeling. Thoughts and feelings are generated by our mental and emotional components. They are not our selves. Our selves just are. The practice of horse stance lets me experience my self and not its thoughts and emotions.
After explaining to you the meaning of the practice of horse stance for me, I would like to share why I was reminded of its importance. Holding the posture for as long as necessary for the life energy to enter and refresh my body can be challenging. Muscles can become tense and painful initially, until I find the way to hold the posture without tensing up.
While I stand like this and change the position of my arms through the three phases of horse stance, a curious thing happens. My mind is consciously focused on holding the posture while finding the balance that makes the process almost without challenge.
This focus of the mind doesn’t allow it to have any other thoughts that distract me. The silence deepens, the only sound is my breath, and the only sensation is that of the energy moving throughout my body.
After spending a while in this state, I notice the deliciousness of being. I can feel nothing else but my own silent self. This silence fills my being and expands my Heart. I can feel nothing but my self. This feeling is lovely. It is the experience of unconditional love in its purest form without applying it to my self or others. I am leaving a world full of details and enter the simple state of being, where only the delicious silence of my own self exists.
This silence brings balance to my body, mind, Heart and Spirit. It is detaching me from the polyphony of life on this planet and realigns my self. This is why I mentioned the practice of horse stance. Balance is necessary for everything in life. Without balance nothing can happen properly. You might ask why. It is simple. With the internal balance that comes from the realignment of the parts that make up your Self, any steps you take in your life towards a goal become defined, contain resolve and are driven towards it. In an imbalanced world, anything we do without internal balance has a questionable outcome.
After the practice of horse stance, I always spend some time in meditation. The physical exhaustion that comes with practicing horse stance centres my Self and the energy flows effortlessly. That energy can be anything. Etheric, mental, emotional or spiritual energy. It doesn't matter. I recently understood the importance of internal balance for my health.
I felt rejuvenated and pumped full of energy for a while. I believe that this exercise should be taught at schools and be part of our life. Well, I will continue this practice for my self and see where it leads me. There is so much to gain from being healthy. Our unhealthy lifestyle made us forget how it truly feels to be healthy. Health is not just physical health. It is mental, emotional and spiritual health as well. Balance is the key in life. Everything else follows from balance. We all must find balance in our lives and each person's balance is unique.
At this point you might say "How am I going to bring balance in my life when I have a ton of obligations or when I am forced to work two jobs to survive?" A valid question. And it is the one question that forces itself into the foreground of your consciousness. We think that there is no time to focus on our selves, when we all agree as spiritual people that time is an illusion.
Decide to assign an hour every day to your self. Decide when this hour is most convenient for you. The first thing you should consider doing in that hour is to make a list of all the things in your life that disturb you the most. Be honest and don't overthink it. Be short and to the point. Do not use many words. When you do that, your ego will not try to spin a story to influence your decision. Pen and paper have a miraculous effect on your process as they focus your consciousness.
Then start thinking about what to do about these items on the list. See if you can find a root cause for one or more items. If they share the same cause, then you can strike off multiple items off your list if you address a common cause for multiple issues.
When you have found something that you think will bring you more balance in your life, try to assess it with your heart and not your ego. Does it resonate with your Heart? If it doesn't, then look for something else. Once you find it, then go for it and don't look back. Go for it as if your life depended on it and your Heart will empower you to pursue it.
It doesn’t have to be something you do; it can be something you are or aren't. We are all unique and we all need different things to float our boats. If you surrender to your own balance, then you can do and be anything you ever dreamt of. Choose consciously for your self to do or be what empowers you. Choose and take steps in realizing your dreams.
I found balance with horse stance, which helped me feel better in my body and successfully address the resistance it had to losing weight. You might find balance with yoga, which might help you become more social. Somebody else might find balance by doing charity work, which might help them feel loved. Yet another might find balance in gardening and realize the beauty that’s present in nature, becoming more in alignment with nature. Obviously internal balance is of the utmost importance for everything in life and there is no shortage of causes to pursue balance for. The only one who might be opposed to gaining balance and manifesting your dreams is your self through your ego. Wouldn't it be a pity to decide not to pursue your dreams, because you think that there is no time for you to pursue them or because you have too many obligations or because you’re working two jobs to keep up with the cost of living? It's up to our selves and nobody else to stand up for our own self. This is one of the primary reasons why we came to Earth: to find balance and empower our selves. We can say “YES”, only through our own internal balance and empowerment, even if everything around us say “NO”.
It's high time to stop being impressed with others for their achievements and become more involved with our own achievements. Do you prefer being a spectator for others or the main character in your own dreams that you managed to realize? When you have the answer to that, then you'll know what to do or be. Balance is the skeleton key that is missing for most of us in our lives. And if you are a Lord of the Rings fan, you might understand how internal balance will bring outer balance to everything around you. Just like the one ring to rule them all.
